LeadingAge Iowa Strategic Principles

Lead/Innovate
It is imperative that LEADINGAGE IOWA members create the climate that makes innovation possible and assures that effective programs and practices are implemented. Through members’ long history of innovation in aging services, the not-for-profit sector has been—and is expected to be—the crucible of creative, entrepreneurial development of new services that meet consumer’s ever changing needs. IAHSA and its members should be known as the experts in innovation.

Engage Consumers/Excellence
It is imperative that LEADINGAGE IOWA understand emerging and changing needs, wants, and expectations. We will help to position our members as service providers who are the trusted guide in helping consumers address complex aging issues efficiently and effectively and to position LEADINGAGE IOWA as the most trusted advocate for the right public policy for the right reasons.

Lead Financing Paradigm
It is imperative that LEADINGAGE IOWA lead the (private/public) financing paradigm ensuring appropriate funding for the full continuum of aging services.  We want to position members as those who demonstrate stewardship by offering quality innovative services across the socio-economic spectrum in ways that create value for consumers, those with whom we do business and government.

Cultivate Human Capital
It is imperative that LEADINGAGE IOWA advocate for programs that attract, retain, respect, and develop the people who are responsible for aging services delivery—from direct service to governance. LEADINGAGE IOWA members understand that staffing is the best-known proxy for quality; strong boards are the best- known proxy for accountability and competent professional leaders and managers are the best-known proxy for success.

Strengthen Association
It is imperative that LEADINGAGE IOWA exist with a strong financial base achieved through a stable and growing membership.  It is important to offer high value, engagement, and superior quality networking opportunities.

Strengthen Not-for-Profit Leadership
It is imperative that LEADINGAGE IOWA reinforce the unique responsibilities of the not-for-profit sector as guardians of values, crucibles of innovation, cultivation of volunteerism, and stewards of the public interest. It is important that members make more visible nonprofit leadership in service and advocacy to justify public confidence in our missions through tax-status designation and philanthropic support.
