LeadingAge Iowa is a statewide membership organization of non-profit providers of aging services and supports and the champion for advancement and innovation in aging services. DIA Informs Providers to Anticipate Weekend Survey Activity

In an effort to catch up and reduce the state's survey cycle average, the Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals (DIA) has announced that the department is offering additional work opportunities to Health Facilities Surveyors that would allow them to work some weekends conducting nursing facility recertification surveys and complaint/incident investigations.  DIA is required by CMS to maintain a statewide average of no more than 12.9 months between surveys, and the Iowa survey cycle has gradually been increasing over the past year.  The addition of weekend surveys (Friday-Saturday-Sunday) will allow the Department to decrease the cycle average and achieve compliance with CMS standards.

Retroactive Payments for Nursing Facilities Reinstated

In 2017, consistent with the state fiscal year (SFY) 2018/19 Human Services appropriations bill, DHS requested to eliminate retroactive benefits for all Iowa Medicaid eligibility groups that were previously eligible to receive up to three months of retroactive coverage. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) approved this request, with an exception for pregnant women and during the 60-day period beginning on the last day of the pregnancy and infants under one year of age, who continue to receive the 3-month retroactive eligibility period.
