The LeadingAge Iowa Assisted Living Nurse Delegation course is formatted to help attendees manage their time wh ile still receiving quality training and networking with colleagues. LAI r ecognizes that people want more options when it comes to training delivery models. New this year, the live sess ion will be available for attendees to register for either in-person in a t raditional classroom model or in a live-streaming, virtual zoom setting.
This class meets Iowa Ass isted Living Regulation: 481-69.29(6): All programs employing a new delegat ing nurse after Jan. 1, 2010, shall require the delegating nurse within six months of hire to complete an assisted living manager class or assisted li ving nursing class whose curriculum includes at least six hours of training specifically related to Iowa rules and laws on assisted living. A minimum of one delegating nurse from each program must complete the training. If there are multiple delegating nurses and only one delegating nurse complete s the training, the delegating nurse who completes the training shall train the other delegating nurses in the Iowa rules and laws on assisted living. As of Jan. 1, 2011, all programs shall have a minimum of one delegating n urse who has completed the training described in this subrule. New this ye ar, the live training session will be available as either in-person in a tr aditional classroom model or in a live-streaming, virtual zoom setting.

Management (Julie Johnson, Healthcare of Iowa) During this pr esentation, we will cover medication management in assisted living. We wil l also cover high risk medications, why they are high risk medications, and what you need to be aware of when tenants are receiving high risk medicati ons. Nurse Delegation and its Use in Assisted Living (Julie Johnson, Healthcare of Iowa) Nurse delegation and its use in assisted living will be reviewed. The role of the assisted living nurs e and direct care worker will be presented and how delegation can be used e ffectively. |
3:15 – 4:30 p.m. | Fire Safety/Life Safe
ty (Kyle Gorsh, Iowa Department of Public Safety) This sessio n will provide the assisted living manager an overview of fire safety preca utions and inspections. A discussion of the assisted living emergency plan will be held including recognition of hazards, fire drills, alarm systems, and evacuation plans, including those with special physical and mental dis abilities. |
