LeadingAge Iowa is pleased to announce a vi rtual series that will take place in three segments over the first half of 2023 that will aid in developing the Director of Nursing (DON) role in nurs ing homes. Elements of this series will focus on budgeting and quality assu rance; survey processes and regulations; and human resources, customer serv ice, and leadership. Each segment of this series is designed to provi de in-depth information and discussion on each topic without taking the ser ies in a sequential order or taking all 3 sections of the series. By making each of the 3 segments standalone, you can better address succession plann ing by having individuals attend as their nurse leadership skills are ident ified. Additional sections in this series will be added to the events calen dar in June. Event Agenda The long-term care survey process can be very time-consuming and stressful for the Director of Nursing while the surveyors are on-site. This session will provide an overview of what to expect during the on-site survey, in an effo rt to prepare both mentally and physically.

during this session) This session will include strategies for maintaining compliance r egarding federal regulations with focus in the nursing department. The fol lowing sections from Appendix PP of the State Operations Manual (SOM) will be covered in-depth including regulatory language, developing strategies fo r strong prevention programs in accordance with interpretative guidance, an d examples of non-compliance.
In addition, Quality Assurance and Performan ce Improvement examples will be provided during discussion on each regulati on.
