Faculty Catie Campbell has been with the Department of Inspections, Appeals, and Licensing as a program coordinator in the special services and adult services bureaus since 2009. Campbell began her employment with the Department as a surveyor for the Special Services Bureau. In 2014 she moved to the program coordinator position for Intermediate Care Facilities for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities (ICF/ID) and assumed the role of program coordinator for Adult Services Bureau in July 2016, as well. Campbell has a bachelor’s degree from Coe College in Cedar Rapids. Prior to joining DIA, she worked for an ICF/ID in the Cedar Rapids area as a unit facilitator and qualified intellectual disabilities professional. Cari Conrad MHA, BSN, RN is the director of independent and assisted living at Friendship Haven in Fort Dodge. She has been a registered nurse for 12 years earning Bachelor's Degrees in Biology and Nursing, and her Master's in Health Administration from Briar Cliff University. She has worked as an emergency department nurse, performance improvement and accreditation specialist, and Regional Director of Care Management within the hospital setting where she led teams planning for care coordination, discharge planning, and population health. She joined the Friendship Haven team as the Director of Assisted Living in 2021 and oversees the operations of the independent living and assisted living areas of the Friendship Haven campus, which includes the two licensed assisted living programs, one general licensure and the other for dementia and memory support. Amy Fratzke, Management Analyst 3, Fire Safety Bureau, Department of Inspections, Appeals and Licensing. Amy transitioned to the Department of Inspections, Appeals, and Licensing conducting Life Safety Code surveys after serving 30 years with the Iowa Department of Public Safety. Amy has 24 years experience with the State Fire Marshal's Office as a Fire Prevention Inspector. Kathy French, CPA is the owner of Ryun, Givens & Company, P.C. Kathy is a graduate of Grandview College and has been with the firm since 2001 with 5 years of experience with the Auditor of State prior to joining RGC. Her responsibilities include supervising and reviewing work product of the firm and providing technical assistance to long-term care providers. Her experience with the industry has provided her with history and expertise in audit, accounting and cost report preparation requirements. Kathy is a member of the Iowa Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Julie Halfpop is the director of nutrition services at Martin Bros. Distributing. She has devoted 35 years to inspiring dining strategies to maximize client satisfaction and wellness in senior living. She currently oversees 10 dietitians who work closely with senior living professionals in menu development, provision, and staff education. Stacy Hejda is co-owner and consultant with Healthcare of Iowa, formerly Assisted Living Partners. She provides consulting services to assisted living facilities focusing on program development and regulatory compliance monitoring as well as elderly waiver and HUD rental assistance programs. Hejda has more than 20 years’ experience working with assisted living programs in Iowa. Amber Jedlicka is currently the director of health services for Oaknoll, in Iowa City, Iowa. Amber has 22 years of experience working as an upper level manager in top notch, full-service retirement communities in Iowa. Five of those years she served as the director of a dementia specific assisted living. Amber has conducted numerous training seminars over the years with a focus on her passion of employee growth and development, having fun in the workplace, customer service skills, communication skills, and working in a people-centered business model. Amber is a graduate of the University of Northern Iowa, with a Bachelor of Arts in family services and received her M.B.A in Business Administration, University of Dubuque, 2021. She is also a past-president of the Downtown Waterloo Rotary. In the fall of 2009, at the age of 30, Amber was recognized as one of the Cedar Valley’s top twenty business professionals under the age of forty. Amber was also a member of the Waterloo Toastmasters where she earned recognition as a Competent Communicator (CC). She serves on the Board of Directors for LAI/LAIL and was selected by LeadingAge National to be a part of the 2024 Larry Minnex Leadership Academy in 2024. Julie Johnson received her RN at Des Moines Area Community College. She has been a nurse consultant with Healthcare of Iowa, formerly Assisted Living Partners since June 2019. In her capacity, she completes regulatory compliance reviews, providing written reports with recommendations on improving assessments and tenant charts. Julie also goes to assisted living communities as an RN completing assessments, updating service plans, and implementing new systems. She has worked in long term care for many years (15+) serving as a director of nursing and director of assisted living. She is currently working on her BSN in nursing through Grand Canyon University. Holly Lear is a PhD prepared nurse leader. She has worked at two top rated Skilled Nursing Facilities in Eastern Iowa. She currently leads the Woodlands as a Nursing Home Administrator at Meth-Wick Community. Previously, she worked as a Director of Nursing during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. She has taught the last five years as a clinical nursing instructor at Kirkwood Community College. Alissa Smith is co-chair of Dorsey & Whitney's Health Care Transactions & Regulatory practice group. She routinely represents long-term care facilities and other health care providers in transactional and regulatory matters. Kellie Van Ree is the director of clinical services for LeadingAge Iowa. She has more than 20 years’ experience in the health care industry. In addition to a Registered Nurse license, Kellie also holds an active Nursing Home Administrator’s license. Kellie has served in many capacities in the long-term care field including Director of Nursing, Corporate Consultant and most recently Administrator. Kellie has also served as a health facilities surveyor for a short time.
